Southern Africa · Est. in the Lowveld
This land knows our name.
Sibusiso Vilane stood at the top of the world and said: I did it for Africa. His son came back to the bush — after years building things elsewhere — because the land is his native language. Vilane Safaris is what happens when a family's home becomes a gift to guests.
Safari, told from inside
Most safari companies show you Africa. Vilane Safaris is from Africa.
The difference is not a matter of degree — it is a matter of home. When you walk with a Vilane guide, you are walking with someone for whom the bush is a lifelong context, not a professional subject. The knowledge is deeper. The stories are personal. The silences mean something different when the person standing next to you grew up reading them.

Where we guide
Southern Africa, in full
“Growing up, my father took us to game drives. He taught us to read tracks, to listen to the bush, to understand that what looks empty is full of story. We have since learned that for most people, those lessons are rare. Vilane Safaris exists to share them.”
Bavukile Vilane — Co-founder, Vilane Safaris
How we guide
Six ways to be in the bush
Private Big Five
The full dramatis personae of the African bush — lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, rhino. Guided privately, unhurried, without a vehicle circuit.
Learn more →Walking Safari
On foot, in single file, reading the bush on its own terms. The most honest way to be in Africa. Our guides carry this tradition seriously.
Learn more →Photography
Adapted schedules, dedicated positions, guides who understand light and animal behaviour equally. For photographers who take the craft seriously.
Learn more →Family Safari
Three generations is what the Vilane family brought to safari. Three generations is what we want families to experience here. All ages, no condescension.
Learn more →Conservation Journey
Safari that goes beyond observation into understanding: anti-poaching, rewilding, community conservation. What happens behind the game drive.
Learn more →Cultural Immersion
Southern Africa is more than its wildlife. The cultures, histories, and communities of this region are as extraordinary as its landscapes.

The Vilane Standard
Every guide who carries the Vilane name is held to a specific set of values and competencies. Not because we want a curriculum — because a family's reputation requires it.
The Full StandardDeep ecological knowledge
Every Vilane guide understands the ecosystem, not just the charismatic species. Birds, insects, plants, predator-prey dynamics. The full story.
Cultural context
The land you are visiting has human stories layered through it. Our guides carry those stories — not as anecdotes, but as genuine knowledge.
Patient, attentive presence
The Vilane Standard means knowing when to stay still and when to move. Forty minutes with one leopard is worth more than ticking every box.
African narrative authority
Our guides are from this continent. They read it from the inside. That is not a credential — it is a quality of attention that changes what you see.
S & B
Sibusiso & Bavukile
The family behind the brand
Sibusiso and Bavukile Vilane
Sibusiso Vilane is the first Black African to summit Mount Everest. He completed the Explorer's Grand Slam — all Seven Summits and both Poles. He is also the man who took his son on game drives growing up and said, without ceremony, pay attention to this.
Bavukile (Bavu) Vilane is his son. After years in technology and operations, he came back to the bush. Together, they co-founded Vilane Safaris — not as a business decision, but as the natural extension of what their family has always been.
Our Family StoryFrom guests
What people carry home
“The morning walk was unlike anything I've experienced in twenty years of African travel. Our guide read the bush like a language he grew up speaking — because he did.”
“What sets Vilane Safaris apart is that you feel the family's genuine relationship to this landscape. It's not performance — it's home.”
“I've been on safari with five operators across Africa. None of them gave me the sense of being genuinely inside the ecosystem that this family does.”
